Paris, 30 August 2019 – Lagardère Sports, part of Lagardère Sports and Entertainment and exclusive agency of Valenciennes Football Club (VAFC), is proud to announce that a blood donation drive will be set up by the club and EFS in the coming weeks for the benefit of the Cultures du Cœur association.

Starting tonight, at the game against Clermont Football Club on the 6th match day of Domino’s Ligue 2, Valenciennes Football Club will encourage its partners, sponsors, supporters and associates to give blood on the upcoming Saturdays of 7 and 14 September.

A campaign endorsed by VAFC players!

The VAFC players will wear a special shirt for the occasion. The front of the shirts will be dedicated to the campaign with the message “Share your power, give blood!”, with the aim of educating all those watching the game on the importance of giving blood to save lives.

The start of September is a busy period for everyone, including hospitals (with many operations scheduled) which leads to an increase in the demand for blood products. The French Blood Establishment (EFS) invites citizens to mark a blood donation on their calendars this September. In France, 10,000 donations are needed daily to treat patients.

Over these two Saturdays, EFS, created on 1 January 2000 and the only civilian blood transfusion provider in France, will be offering to collect blood donations at its premises (Centre Tertival – Chemin des Alliés in Valenciennes), and will be decked out for the occasion in the colours of the football club. For each donation made, a pair of tickets for a VAFC game will be offered to Cultures du Cœur, an association that promotes the integration of the most disadvantaged through access to culture, sports and recreation. This blood donation initiative will allow young children to have a unique experience at the Hainaut stadium.

The operation is supported by the Young Entrepreneurs Centre (CJD) which is standing alongside VAFC to raise awareness of this wonderful cause among businesses in the region and the general public.

In addition, on Friday 20 September, for the match against Chamois Niortais, EFS members will be invited to kick off the match and give fans an overview of the operation and its importance.

Eddy Zdziech, President of VAFC: “We are proud to be organising this great campaign to encourage as many people as possible to donate blood. This initiative is close to our hearts and matches the values of the club: commitment, respect and solidarity. We hope that many people will get involved and we call upon all fans, partners, sponsors, associates and residents of the region to give blood on the Saturdays of 7 and 14 September. Football is a powerful vector of communication and we must make the most of it to spread this kind of message.”

Laurent Moretti, General Director France at Lagardère Sports: “This initiative gives extra meaning to our support of VAFC and its partners. This is a wonderful campaign that the club is organising for a noble and important cause. We wish this initiative every success!”
