Hamburg, 14 January 2019 – There will be two major premieres at the Race of Champions on 19 and 20 January in Mexico City. For the first time, Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel will be competing for Team Germany. Mick will be following in the footsteps of his father Michael, who won the Nations Cup six times at the ROC with Vettel as his team partner.

Motorsport fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland can also look forward to the second premiere: Mick Schumacher is broadcasting the Race of Champions – supported by his long-standing partner, Deutsche Vermögensberatung – live or on-demand and free of charge on his Facebook page. The project has been conceived, brokered and implemented by Lagardère Sports and Lagardère Plus.

“I’m really looking forward to the Race of Champions and of course I want to do my best. What a cool idea from Deutsche Vermögensberatung, enabling the duels to be streamed on my Facebook page. In this way, all motorsport fans in German-speaking countries can feel as if they are sitting in the stands in Mexico, free of charge.” says Schumacher.

Nikolaus von Doetinchem, Executive Vice President of Global Media at Lagardère Sports, adds: “The Race of Champions is a great format, which now has a new, grand stage on Mick Schumacher’s Facebook page. We have developed the concept together with his management and are very pleased to be able to activate the partnership with Deutsche Vermögensberatung in such a valuable and innovative way. We are convinced that branded content formats on social media represent fantastic added value for both the companies and the athletes involved.”

The concept of the Race of Champions livestream on Facebook focuses on a new digital audience and offers valuable content for them. The collaboration between marketing agency Lagardère Sports and Lagardère Plus reflects the need for close integration of targeted sponsorship engagements and sustainable activation. This project once again underlines the ongoing transformation of the media landscape and changing content consumption behaviour.

The 30th edition of the Race of Champions will take place from 19 to 20 January 2019 at the Foro Sol stadium, part of the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez Formula 1 track in Mexico City. Motorsport fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland can watch the event live on both days from 8 pm on Mick Schumacher’s page at or directly at

On 19 January, the drivers will firstly compete against each other in the Nations Cup. On 20 January the best individual driver, the “Champion of Champions”, will be announced. In addition to Mick Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel, who start for Team Germany, this year will also feature David Coulthard, the long-time Formula 1 driver and competitor of Michael Schumacher, the rallycross world champion Johan Kristoffersson and the Le Mans record holder Tom Kristensen.
