Singapore, 10 November 2017 – Lagardère Sports’ dedication and commitment to sport in Asia was rewarded this week at the Sports Industry Awards Asia (SPIA) 2017 when the organisation won Gold in the ‘Best Sports Marketing Agency of the Year’ category.

At the glittering ceremony in Bangkok on Tuesday night, Lagardère Sports held off stiff competition from leading agencies in the region to claim the top spot and also saw one of its events, the 2016 BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, win honours in three categories.

The prestigious tennis tournament scored a hat trick including a Silver for both the ‘Best Live Experience at a Professional Sporting Event’ and ‘Best Sports Event Hospitality Offering of the Year’, and a Bronze for the ‘Best Integrated Marketing Campaign for a Sports Event’.

“This is a phenomenal achievement that validates the tremendous work we have been doing,” said Ashoke Sengupta, Managing Director, Asia & Middle East, Lagardère Sports. “There was extremely strong competition this year and we are pleased to have received the majority of confidence votes from industry leaders.”

The 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup and the 2017 SMBC Singapore Open, part of the portfolio of events organised by Lagardère Sports, were also finalists in various categories at SPIA Asia.

“Over the past few years, the WTA Finals has grown from strength to strength in all areas so we are delighted to earn accolades in three categories at SPIA Asia,” said Sarah Clements, Vice President, Tennis – Asia, Lagardère Sports.

“It has required an incredible team effort to stage the WTA Finals and we have worked tirelessly with our partners to make the event an unforgettable experience for everyone.”

This week’s achievement at SPIA Asia caps off a successful year for Lagardère Sports in the awards arena.

Earlier this year, the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup won Gold for ‘Best Idea – Sporting Marketing’ at Marketing Magazine’s annual MARKies Awards, while the 2017 Asia-Pacific Holmes Report’s SABRE (Superior Achievement in Branding, Reputation & Engagement) Gold Award in Travel and Leisure – one of the world’s most prestigious PR awards – went to the WTA Finals.

Next up for Lagardère Sports’ busy calendar of events in Asia is the AFC Champions League Final on 18 and 25 November, between Al-Hilal and Urawa Red Diamonds, and the Emirates Australian Open in Sydney from 23 – 26 November.

As a leading international sports marketing agency, Lagardère Sports has long-term partnerships with three FIFA associations, over 100 European football clubs, and several major U.S. professional sports leagues.
