Hamburg, 22 October 2018 – The two German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF report live from the matches of the German national team at the 2019 World Handball Championships in Germany and Denmark. Lagardère Sports and SportA, the joint sports rights agency of ARD and ZDF, have signed a corresponding agreement, which also includes the broadcasting rights for all IHF Men’s Handball World Championships up to 2025. The international sports rights agency Lagardère Sports secured the mandate for the exclusive marketing of these media rights at the end of September 2018.

Robert Müller von Vultejus, Managing Director of Lagardère Sports Germany, explains: “The fact that we were able to clarify the broadcasting situation so comprehensively in such a short time is not only pleasing to us, but also to the whole of Handball Germany. The upcoming home World Championship is a highlight for every sports fan and simply must be shown on free TV. Thanks to our agreement, all the games of the German national team at the next four World Championships will also be shown on ARD and ZDF from now until at least 2025.”

Thanks to the Lagardère Sports team’s many years of media expertise, the rights were granted to ARD and ZDF in such a short time. The team was able to put together an attractive package, once again proving that professional sport and a format such as the World Cup both offer the highest degree of relevance for TV stations and media portals as well as entertainment at the highest level.

In addition to the World Championships starting in January in Denmark and Germany, the agreement for the World Championships also includes the IHF Handball World Championships 2021, 2023 and 2025.
